FAQ

HOW LONG DO ORDERS TAKE?

It depends on whether the order is a custom order (3-4 weeks)* or ready to send (1-2 business days).

*Sometimes custom orders can be faster that this, but usually only around Christmas and when clearly specified that that time frame is shorter.

These time frames are plus post times, which due to Covid and delays, we can't guarantee any post times.

We post with NZ Post, so please refer to their website for postage time frames.

WHY DO CUSTOM ORDERS TAKE SO LONG?

Bottom line is that ceramics take a while to make. We try to start an order within a day or two of receiving an order. The clay must then dry slowly and evenly to avoid warp and cracking. Once dried, it is bisque fired for 16 hours (and keeping in mind we need to wait for the kiln to be at least half full, so we try to bisque fire at least every fortnight but it can take a lot of pottery to even half fill the kiln).
After the bisque, the piece is then painted and glazed and then put back into the kiln for a high glaze fire (and keeping in mind again that we don't just put your piece in the kiln. We have a 4 cubic foot kiln to at least half fill, which we try to do fortnightly).
We then have to pack and send your order

DO YOU DO RUSH ORDERS?

If you need something urgently you can contact us to see how long something will take. For example, if I'm due to put a kiln load on, I might have time to quickly make your piece and put it on a few days later in the kiln load, and you might only have to wait a week. It really just depends on where I'm at in the month with the firing schedule.

Also, if you're ordering a few pieces, it might be possible to just fire your pieces to get them out.

It's quite expensive in electrical costs (not to mention wasteful) to put few pieces in a kiln, so we generally like to have full kilns to fire.

DO YOU OFFER PICK UP?

Yes, definitely. Although I live rurally outside of Cambridge, NZ (Te Miro), so you would have to drive out to me.
Around Christmas time, I also offer delivery to Cambridge and surrounding areas. Just email me to check before selecting this method.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY PIECE?

Unless stated otherwise (such as Christmas decorations or pieces with gold lustre), my ceramics are able to go in the microwave and dishwasher.

They are not suitable for oven use unless stated otherwise in the item description.

Please don't drop the pieces, they will more than likely break if you do.

ARE YOUR CERAMICS FOOD SAFE?

All the tableware I sell is food safe.

The Christmas decorations and jewellery are not (but why would you eat off them anyway).

Miscellaneous items will usually be food safe unless I have specified otherwise in the description.
